Identifiers

UTI

Unique Transaction Identifier

A globally unique identifier assigned to individual derivatives transactions for regulatory reporting.

UTIs were established as part of G20 derivatives reforms to provide unique identification for every derivatives transaction reported to trade repositories. Unlike UPIs which identify product types, UTIs identify specific transaction instances, enabling regulators to track individual trades across their lifecycle. The UTI remains constant throughout the transaction's life, including modifications and terminations. This system supports global regulatory coordination by ensuring that the same transaction can be identified consistently across different jurisdictions and reporting regimes. UTIs are critical for detecting duplicate reporting, reconciling data across trade repositories, and conducting comprehensive market surveillance.
