SEDOL
Stock Exchange Daily Official List
A seven-character alphanumeric security identifier used primarily in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
SEDOLs were originally developed by the London Stock Exchange in 1979 as part of the Stock Exchange Daily Official List publication. The identifier consists of six alphanumeric characters followed by a check digit. SEDOLs are assigned to securities traded on the London Stock Exchange and other UK markets, as well as international securities that are cross-listed. The system covers equities, bonds, derivatives, and investment funds. SEDOLs are essential for settlement through CREST, the UK's central securities depository, and are used for regulatory reporting and market data distribution. The system is now managed by the London Stock Exchange Group.
