Financial Instrument Global Identifier (FIGI) provides a universal standard for identifying financial instruments across all asset classes. Developed by Bloomberg and now managed by the Object Management Group, FIGIs complement existing systems like ISIN and CUSIP. The 12-character format begins with 'BBG' followed by 9 alphanumeric characters. FIGIs are increasingly required for regulatory reporting under various global frameworks.
