The TSE was established in 1878 and serves as the central marketplace for Japanese equities and other securities. The exchange operates multiple market sections including the Prime Market, Standard Market, and Growth Market following recent restructuring. TSE is part of Japan Exchange Group (JPX), which also operates the Osaka Exchange for derivatives. The exchange uses the arrowhead trading system for high-speed electronic trading and settlement through the Japan Securities Depository Center (JASDEC). TSE lists over 3,800 companies including major multinational corporations like Toyota, Sony, and SoftBank. Trading hours are 9:00-11:30 AM and 12:30-3:00 PM JST with specific rules for different market segments.
