SFTR
Securities Financing Transactions Regulation
EU regulation requiring transparency and oversight of securities financing transactions.
SFTR requires detailed reporting of securities financing transactions (SFTs) including repurchase agreements, securities lending, and margin lending to trade repositories. The regulation aims to enhance transparency in shadow banking activities and monitor systemic risk. SFTR includes requirements for trade repositories to collect, store, and provide access to SFT data for regulatory authorities. Financial and non-financial counterparties above specified thresholds must report SFT details including parties, terms, collateral, and margins. The regulation also introduces disclosure requirements for investment funds engaging in SFTs or total return swaps. SFTR complements other post-crisis reforms by providing regulators with comprehensive data on securities financing markets for macroprudential oversight.
