HKEX operates the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, one of Asia's largest securities markets and a major gateway for international investment into China. The exchange lists over 2,600 companies including many Chinese mainland companies through various programs. HKEX operates both the Main Board for established companies and GEM (Growth Enterprise Market) for smaller growth companies. The exchange provides the Stock Connect programs linking Hong Kong with Shanghai and Shenzhen markets, enabling international access to Chinese A-shares. HKEX also operates derivatives markets and the London Metal Exchange (LME) following its 2012 acquisition. Trading hours are 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM HKT with lunch break, reflecting Asian market conventions.
