Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation
The organization that oversees the global LEI system and ensures its implementation worldwide.
GLEIF was established by the Financial Stability Board in 2014 to implement and maintain the global LEI system. The foundation operates as a not-for-profit organization headquartered in Switzerland, overseeing a federated network of Local Operating Units (LOUs) that issue LEIs. GLEIF maintains the Global LEI Index, a comprehensive database of all issued LEIs, and ensures compliance with LEI standards across all jurisdictions. The organization also develops technical standards, promotes LEI adoption, and works with regulators worldwide to expand LEI usage. GLEIF's governance structure includes representatives from regulatory authorities, market participants, and other stakeholders to ensure the system serves global financial stability objectives.
