BSE was established in 1875 and is one of the fastest stock exchanges globally, with a median trade speed of 6 microseconds. The exchange lists over 5,000 companies across various sectors and market segments. BSE operates the SENSEX index, one of India's most widely tracked equity benchmarks. The exchange uses the BOLT (BSE Online Trading) system for electronic trading and provides various market segments including Main Board, SME platform, and debt markets. BSE also operates BSE StAR MF, India's largest mutual fund platform. Trading hours are 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM IST with pre-opening and closing sessions. The exchange plays a crucial role in Indian capital markets alongside NSE.
